Summer Moves & Packing: How to Stay on Track

Not many people would consider themselves to be ‘excited’ to pack up all of their things and then unpack everything. Many dread it, especially in the height of the summer when temperatures are high and many people are feeling sluggish. However, the easiest way to make packing go quickly and seamlessly is to keep yourself motivated and organized. Packing doesn’t have to be boring, stressful and tedious – get motivated!

    Stay Organized

Starting the packing process is extremely daunting, but your sense of dread could be worse than the actual act of packing itself. To ease your stress, make a packing checklist and organize your things. If you take things room by room, category by category, you might be surprised by how quickly you can get things up and out of the way.

    Pack in Order

To be as efficient as possible, pack as quickly and with strategy. Start packing as soon as you can – this will make the process seem less arduous and easier to handle. Start from packing the rooms you think will be the hardest challenge first, and get them out of the way. If you get what you’re dreading most out of the way first, the rest of the process will seem much easier. For many, tasks like packing the attic or the garage can feel the most daunting.

    Break It Up

Break your packing process up into mini-tasks or mini-packing sessions to get things out of the way quickly. Packing in stages will make the whole process more organized and have everything running smoothly. Organize your tasks by room and then by category of item. Pack away anything non-essential first, and go from there.

    Take Breaks

Make sure to take breaks during your packing process and give yourself little rewards throughout the process. Packing can be not only physically tiring, but also mentally tiring. Give yourself a pat on the back as you go by – treat yourself to take out or give yourself a present after you’ve packed away a certain number of items. Be sure to stay hydrated in the heat of the summer. Prioritize yourself and your mental health – make sure to get plenty of sleep and manage your stress in a healthy manner during the packing and moving process.

    Carey is Here For You

Packing can be draining for a lot of reasons, but there are many ways to keep yourself motivated and operating to the best of your ability while preparing for your move. Don’t procrastinate packing – it will only make the process infinitely worse to put it off until the last minute, and will make your moving day harder.
