Downsizing? Here Are Some Tips on How To Make The Most of Your Space

There are many reasons you could be downsizing. Perhaps the kids have grown up and moved out and now you are an empty-nesters. Maybe you’re a college student moving into your first small dorm room. Or perhaps you are moving from the suburbs to a small city apartment. Whatever your reason, downsizing is a great opportunity to get organized with your belongings. Here are some ways you can prioritize what is important in your new space.

    • Sort & Pile – go through your belongings and decide what is necessary versus what can be sold and/or donated. Chances are if you’re downsizing, you will need to get rid of some things or move them into storage
    • Research storage options – find the storage facility that works best for your needs and your budget
    • Invest in home storage furniture – whether you need compact shelving or under-the-bed storage, having organized but not bulky storage in your home will be crucial to making the most of your space
    • Digitize – if you have an extensive library, DVD, or photo collection, look into how you can transfer it onto a computer or external hard drive. This will save you a lot of space.

There are many ways to make the most out of your new, smaller home. Get creative, and plan ahead. Sometimes less is more!
Happy moving, from Carey Moving & Storage.
