Carey Moving & Storage would not be the company that it is today without the hard work and dedication of Patrick Andrew Carey. Our long-time president and patriarch passed away last week, and we are taking a moment to reflect on his life and work.
Patrick was born in 1935 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. After attending Spartanburg High School, Pat got his degree at Yale University, and moved on to work for Reliance Electric Company in Cleveland, OH. After a few years, he returned to Spartanburg to run the family moving business.
Pat was well suited for the moving business and increased the company’s size from one location in Spartanburg to five, including: Greenville, Asheville, Charlotte/Rock Hill, and Knoxville. His passion for the business was evident by his involvement in the SC Movers Association (serving as association president and awarded “Mover of the Year”), Allied Regional Round Table, Tri-County Transportation Association, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, and the American Moving & Storage Association. Pat also served on the Allied Van Lines Board of Directors.
Pat was very a dedicated father and husband, who was actively involved in the local community, serving on many local boards, charitable organizations, and with his church. He believed that it was important to give back to the community, and in the power of education and mentoring to improve lives.
