Carey Moving Partners with the Susan G. Komen Foundation

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, as an Agent of Allied, Carey Moving would like to announce its partnership with the Susan G. Komen Foundation, the world’s leading breast cancer organization. Through community outreach and fundraising, Carey hopes to further the foundation’s mission of saving lives and raising awareness of and research for breast cancer.

What is the Susan G. Komen Foundation?

Almost 280,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States. This widespread illness affects many in our community and those in our own families. Since 1982, founder Nancy G. Brinker and those within the organization have worked tirelessly to aid in the fight against breast cancer. As the world’s largest nonprofit source of funding against the disease, the Susan G. Komen Foundation has invested over $2.9 billion in research, community and global outreach, and advocacy in over 60 countries worldwide.

The Susan G. Komen Foundation was founded on the promise to eradicate breast cancer and find a cure. This continued mission has allowed for huge breakthroughs in research and recovery, and has helped reduce breast cancer related death by 40% since 1989.

Going the Extra Mile

In addition to the foundation’s huge contributions to research, education, screening, treatment, outreach, and more, Susan G. Komen goes above and beyond to also support women and men with the fewest resources. This includes those who are uninsured, underinsured, low-income, and those who do not have access to the care that they need to fight breast cancer.

On top of its work with those with the fewest resources, the foundation has also taken the initiative to close breast cancer disparities in the Black community. Black women are 40% more likely to die of breast cancer than white women and frequently do not have access to the same quality of care. With its launch of “Stand for H.E.R. – a Health Equity Revolution”, the Susan G. Komen Foundation has committed to reducing breast cancer mortality rates between Black and white women by 25%.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, which is a time to educate and inform those who aren’t fully aware of the disease and how many people it impacts on a daily basis, as well as to make sure enough is being done to encourage women to receive routine mammograms and know the signs of breast cancer as it develops, especially after age 50. Early detection is the key to managing and eradicating the disease from individuals.

Additionally, this month serves a reminder of those lost, and how continued research will allow a cure to be found one day soon. Find out more about how you can donate to breast cancer research here.

Carey Moving’s Commitment to the Cure

Breast cancer has had a huge impact on our community and on each of our individual lives. At Carey, we know how important it is to give back the best we can, and bring awareness to huge issues that continue to affect us every day. This Breast Cancer Awareness month, we are proud  to partner with the Susan G. Komen foundation and remain committed to supporting research and finding the cure for breast cancer.
